Overview
Dataset indexing involves mapping your dataset's geospatial columns and assigning them a BigGeo ID. This process enhances the performance and speed of your datasets, improving the efficiency of creating maps and visualizing data in our map interface. Datasets need to be indexed before they can be used to create map visualizations using BigGeo.
To start indexing your datasets, follow the steps below:
1. Initialize Index
In the Datascape portal, navigate to the data management section in the main sidebar. Here, you'll find all of your un-indexed datasets. Locate the dataset you want in the table view and click the "Index" button.
2. Select Primary Key
Some geospatial columns may require a primary key mapping. Select the column from your dataset that you want to use as your primary key, which is typically the ID column in the dataset.
3. Map Geospatial Columns
Select the number of geospatial columns in your dataset, typically the Latitude and Longitude columns.
1 Geospatial Column
If your dataset combines its geospatial columns into one, select this option and map your columns accordingly.
2 Geospatial Columns
Most datasets have two geospatial columns: one for latitude and one for longitude. If this applies to your dataset, select this option and map your columns accordingly.
4. Style Dataset
From here, you also have the option to select the fill color for your dataset. This will be the default color your dataset appears as in the map interface.

Once you finalize the steps to start indexing your data, it will begin processing.
